The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed four petitions challenging the Re-NEET UG 2026 results and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each petitioner. A division bench of Justice N B Suryawanshi and Justice A D Shinde passed the order after examining the original OMR answer sheets of the students, which were brought from Delhi in sealed envelopes

What the Petitioners Claimed
The four petitioners had approached the High Court alleging that the marks declared by the National Testing Agency did not match the scores they calculated using their OMR sheets and the official answer key. They claimed the results, announced on July 16, contained evaluation errors.
Court’s Examination of the Answer Sheets
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the bench directed that the original answer sheets be brought from Delhi in sealed envelopes and produced before the court. Senior panel counsel Rohit Sarvadnya, representing the Union of India and the NTA, presented the original records during the hearing.
The students, their parents and their lawyers were allowed to inspect the original sheets themselves. After this examination, the court found that the marks recorded on the scorecards matched the original answer sheets, and no discrepancy was found in the NTA’s evaluation.
Petitions Dismissed, Costs Imposed
After reviewing all the records, the bench dismissed all four petitions. It imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each petitioner (two petitioners) for approaching the court based on what it termed incorrect and unverified claims. Advocate Mahindra Gandle, representing the petitioners, said the pleas were effectively withdrawn after the court declined to entertain them.
The Re-NEET UG 2026 Cycle
The original NEET UG 2026 exam, held on May 3, was cancelled after allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities, with the matter referred to the CBI for investigation. The NTA subsequently conducted a re-examination on June 21 under tightened security. The OMR sheets and recorded responses were released on July 13, candidates could raise objections until July 15, and the final results were declared on July 16.
