Rajasthan’s School Education Department has started training government school teachers to use artificial intelligence tools for lesson planning and student assessments, a move running alongside a shift in the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education’s (RBSE) exam pattern toward more long-answer and analytical questions. The Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT) rolled out the training as a pilot in July 2026, covering close to one lakh teachers across ten districts. The push comes as RBSE’s revised pattern, used in the 2026 board exams and carried into the 2026-27 session, asks students to write more descriptive, reasoning-based answers.

Two changes are converging in Rajasthan’s classrooms this year. RBSE has been raising the share of long-answer, reasoning-based questions in its board papers, testing understanding over memorisation. Separately, the state government has begun training teachers to use AI tools for planning lessons and building assessments faster. The two were not announced as one scheme, but together they are changing how RBSE-pattern questions get written in schools.
RSCERT began its AI training pilot in July 2026 under the Education Department, covering close to one lakh teachers in ten districts, with expansion planned after review. Teachers are learning to use AI tools to create lesson plans, prepare assessments, and analyse students’ learning needs. RSCERT Director Shweta Fagadia said the goal is to make teaching “more effective, student-friendly, and data-driven.” The rollout follows Rajasthan’s AI-ML Policy 2026, cleared by the state cabinet in December 2025, and is positioned as consistent with the National Education Policy 2020.
Separately, RBSE moved most Class 10 subjects and several Class 12 subjects, including economics, political science, history, mathematics, and Hindi and English literature, to an 80-mark paper for the exams that began February 12, 2026, with greater weightage for long-answer questions. Model papers for 2026-27, published August 3, 2026, carry the same pattern forward. RBSE has issued no separate notification linking this change to AI or to the RSCERT programme.
For teachers, AI tools of the kind covered in the training can help draft practice questions from a syllabus topic, suggest difficulty variations, and flag students struggling with specific concepts, though teachers still need to review AI-generated questions before using them in class. Rajasthan already uses AI in assessment through its RKSMB programme, which has graded crores of answer sheets using OCR technology since 2022, though that effort focuses on grading rather than question design.
