NTA Cancelled NEET (UG) 2026: Check Fresh Dates to be Released Soon

Amidst a major controversy surrounding a paper leak, the NTA has issued a tweet announcing the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination, which was held on May 3, 2026. This decision was taken following inputs received from central agencies, which had raised concerns regarding the fairness and credibility of the examination. Approximately 2.2 million students across India, as well as abroad, had appeared for this exam, and they are now facing a major crisis of credibility.

As per the NTA post on “X” handle, “On May 8, 2026, NTA referred the matter to central agencies for independent verification and appropriate action, reiterating its commitment to ensuring the fair, secure, and credible conduct of the exam”. With the cancellation, the government of India has further decided to refer the matter to the “Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)” for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations therein.

After the approval from the government of India, NTA has decided to cancel the exam and reconduct it with a new date, which will be provided separately on the NTA NEET website, i.e. www.neet.nta.nic.in.

How A ‘Guess Paper’ Leak Put NEET-UG 2026 under Review?

The NEET UG 2026 was conducted on May 3, 2026, and is now confirmed that it was leaked. The alleged irregularities involve “a guess paper” circulated before the exam that reportedly contained questions which closely matched the actual paper. After that, the initial action was taken by the “Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG)” and stated that the agency was verifying whether the circulation of the material was linked to organised crime.

As per SOG reports, the leaked NEET UG 2026 question paper was handwritten, suggesting around 120 questions matched with the actual NEET 2026 Paper. The investigators also found that the “NEET UG 2026 Leaked Paper” contains around 90 Biology questions and 30 Chemistry questions that exactly match the actual exam paper.

“NEET 2026 has become an auction, with papers allegedly sold on WhatsApp before the test while 22 lakh students worked all year tirelessly,” he further added, “The trust of 22 lakh students has been shattered, and no one poses a greater threat to the dream of India’s youth than the Modi Government”.

The government has also responded to this matter as the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, indicated that the session would be devoted to financial business, while Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan defended the government by stating that “there is no proof of a paper leak within the ultimate seven years”.

Impact of the Cancellation of NEET UG 2026 on Students

Around 22 lakh students across India and abroad participated in the NEET UG 2026 exam, and now, with the approval of the “Government of India” and based on the inputs examined by the NTA, the exam has been cancelled, and to re-conduct the examination will be notified later.

The cancellation of the exam has created widespread anxiety, fear, frustration, disappointment and uncertainty among medical aspirants and parents. Many students have appeared in the exam with the hope of selection, but now they need to restart their preparation without knowing the exact NEET 2026 re-exam date.
