Himachal Pradesh’s round 1 NEET UG 2026 counselling reaches a key stage today, August 25, as the window for filling and locking college and course choices closes. Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), Himachal Pradesh, which conducts the state’s centralised MBBS and BDS counselling, will declare the final seat allotment result on August 29 after a provisional allotment list on August 27. The revised schedule pushes the process back by three days from the original plan, following a corresponding revision in the Medical Counselling Committee’s (MCC) all-India schedule. Candidates who have not yet filled and locked their preferences on the counselling portal must do so before the deadline closes tonight, as the window will not reopen for round 1.
Revised Round 1 Schedule
AMRU issued a revised counselling schedule this month after the MCC updated its own round 1 timeline at the national level. The notice, issued by the Controller of Examinations-cum-Member Secretary of AMRU’s Common Counselling Committee, states that the state schedule was recast “after the revised schedule received from MCC, DGHS, New Delhi.”
The updated Round 1 dates are:
- Choice filling and locking of course, college and quota preferences: August 22 to August 25, 2026
- Provisional seat allocation: August 27, 2026
- Final seat allocation: August 29, 2026
- Reporting and joining of allotted college: September 1 to September 3, 2026
This is a shift from the schedule announced when registration opened, which had listed August 26 as the final allotment date and August 28-29 for college reporting.
Why the Dates Moved
State counselling authorities typically align their schedules with the MCC’s all-India quota timeline, since many candidates participate in both processes simultaneously. MCC had extended its own round 1 choice-filling window earlier this month, and AMRU’s revised notice cites that national-level change as the reason for pushing Himachal Pradesh’s dates.
The university has advised candidates to keep checking its website regularly, noting that any further change to the schedule, including subsequent rounds, will be posted online rather than communicated individually.
Seats on Offer in Round 1
AMRU’s Round 1 counselling covers 634 MBBS seats and 174 BDS seats across 11 institutions in the state. The MBBS seats are spread across six government medical colleges, Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla, Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda, Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College Nahan, Sh Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College Ner Chowk, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College Chamba, and Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College Hamirpur, along with the private Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College in Kumarhatti, Solan.
BDS seats are offered at the HP Government Dental College and Hospital in Shimla and three private dental colleges: Himachal Dental College Sundernagar, Bhojia Dental College Budh in Nalagarh, and Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences Paonta Sahib. Admission to 85 percent of government college seats follows the state quota, reserved for candidates holding a bonafide Himachali certificate, while the remaining seats are filled through NRI and management quotas in private institutions.
What Happens After August 29
Candidates allotted a seat in the final round 1 result must report to their allotted college with original documents between September 1 and September 3 to confirm admission. Required documents include the NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard, class 10 and 12 certificates, the online application confirmation printout, allotment letter, bonafide Himachali certificate, category certificates where applicable, and passport-size photographs.
Candidates who do not report within the given window risk forfeiting their allotted seat, which is then carried forward to the next round of counselling. AMRU has said that round 2 and round 3 schedules, along with a stray vacancy round, will follow in the coming weeks, with exact dates to be notified separately.
